This is also one of my favorite places in Juneau, but among all the others, this is especially special. Actually this is the place where I learned to appreciate the forest and the nature for the first time. I ended up here on a walk as a teenager and my eyes nearly popped out of my head due to the greatness of the views.
Here I have also experienced some personally meaningful events. Such as, once as a teenager I camped out here with my then boyfriend, sat in his lap on the beach as we watched the sunset. It was the most romantic thing I had ever experienced as a seventeen-year-old little Finnish girl.
Kyseinen poika kirjoitti vuosikirjaani jotain mitä en ikinä unohda. Ne sanat kulkevat mukanani vieläkin. Kirjoitus olikin varmasti ensisysäykseni espanjan kielen opiskeluun.
This particular boy wrote something in my yearbook that I will never forget. The words are still with me. The writing was probably also the first real incentive for my Spanish studies.
Te necesito como el pez el agua.”Viimeinen lause hänen kirjoituksessaan rikkoi kuitenkin illuusion täydellisestä latinorakastajasta: “You are very cool“.
The last sentence in his writing however, broke the spell of the perfect latin lover: “You are very cool”. Such a perfect teenage love story!
More than ten years later when I was officially proposed to on this particular beach. Finally I was back here camping out one May Day, when a lot of things had already happened after the proposal.
Back then I was much rather here with my friends and my dog, than at home with the proposer. Life takes you for a wild ride, not always in a good way. This place will still always remain in my heart.
Paikan nimi on Outer Point, ja se sijaitsee Douglasin saaren pohjoisimmassa kärjessä, kivenheiton päässä Eaglecrestin laskettelualueesta, josta voisin joskus tulevaisuudessa kirjoittaa teille lisää nuoruuden tarinoita. Käsi ylös ketä kiinnostaa!
The place is called Outer Point and it’s located at the northernmost point of Douglas Island, a stone’s throw away from the Eaglecrest Ski Area, of which I could write more stories from my youth sometime in the near future. Raise your hand if you’re interested!
