In honor of Instagram Travel Thursday I will publish a collection of my favorite things and places in LA.

Kirjoitinkin jo edellisessä postauksessani, että yksi parhaista jutuista Losissa on ehdottomasti palmut. Nämä upeat yksilöt löytyvät Beverly Hillsistä.

I already mentioned in my previous post, that one of the best things in LA are the palm trees. These fine specimens can be found in Beverly Hills.

Palm trees can also be found in the nearby Griffith Park, more accurately at Runyon Canyon, where many celebrities and ordinary people too go for runs and walk their dogs. The possibilities for outdoor activities are nearly endless in this park, which is one of the largest urban parks in the US.

Griffith Park tarjoaa siis myös uskomattoman mahdollisuuden asua aivan Hollywoodin sydämessä ja harrastaa esimerkiksi ratsastusta omilla kotikulmilla.

Griffith Park offers the amazing possibility of living in the heart of Hollywood and having the opportunity to go horseback riding right in your neighborhood.

Kiipeämällä yhdelle Griffith Parkin korkeimmista kukkuloista pääsee myös näkemään entisaikojen Hollywoodland-asuinalueen nykyisen jäänteen, eli Hollywood-kyltin ylhäältä päin. Näkymät ovat täältä katsottuna henkeäsalpaavat.

By climbing up to one of the tallest peaks of Griffith Park, you’ll also get the opportunity to see the current remnant of the old time Hollywoodland subdivision, aka. the Hollywood Sign from above. The views are breathtaking.

Hollywood Boulevardilla, melkeinpä suoraan Hollywood-kyltin alapuolelta löytyy kuuluisa Graumanin kiinalainen teatteri. Sen edustalla parveilevat sadat turistit ja heidän höynäyttäjänsä. Teatteri on kuitenkin aika hieno jos sitä katsoo hieman ylempää.

On Hollywood Boulevard, nearly right beneath the Hollywood Sign, you’ll find the famous Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. Hundreds of tourists and the ones fooling them gather around it at all hours. The theatre is actually quite nice looking, if you look at it up top.

Hollywoodistakin voi löytää niinkin perinteisen jutun kuin jäätelöauton. Tässä on aivan mahtavat värit.

Even in Hollywood you can find such a traditional thing as an ice cream truck. This one has awesome colors.

Jäätelöstä siirrymme limuun, tai oikeastaan vanhoihin limulaatikoihin, joista myydään vanhoja LP-levyjä Melrose Trading Post -kirpputorilla joka sunnuntai. Tämä kirpputori löytyy Melrosen ja Fairfaxin kulmasta.

From ice cream, we’ll move onto to soda or actually old soda boxes, which now are used to sell old LP’s at the Melrose Trading Post, which operates every Sunday on the corner of Melrose and Fairfax.

On Fairfax you’ll also find dozens of little stores, which sell the latest trends of street style.

Mainstream fashion can be found The Grove, an outdoor shopping mall a bit further downd south, where a trolley transports customers from one end to another.

Jos muoti ei oikeastaan kiinnosta, löytyy Groven yhteydestä myös Farmer’s Market, jossa toimii tämä ihastuttava vanha jäätelökioski.

If you’re that into fashion, there’s also a Farmer’s Market adjacent to The Grove, where this old fashioned ice cream bar still operates.

Joan’s on Third -kahvila/ravintola tarjoaa hyvän vaihtoehdon jäätelölle. Erinomaisten ruokien lisäksi täältä saa kaupungin parhaita Red Velvet -cupcakeja.

The café/restaurant Joan’s on Third offers and excellent alternative to ice cream. Apart from excellent foods, they also serve the best Red Velvet cupcakes in town.

Paikallisia yrittäjiä voi tukea Silverlakessa sijaitsevassa pienessä Re:Form School -kaupassa. Sieltä löytyy kaikkea pientä kivaa.

You can support local arts and crafts at Re:Form School, located in the heart of Silvelake, where you can find lots of cute little things.

Silverlaken lähellä Echo Parkissa pääsee polkemaan polkuveneellä vasta uudistetun puiston lammessa. Downtownin korkeat rakennukset pilkottavat taempana.

Close to Silverlake, in Echo Park, you can pedal around in a paddle boat in the recently refurbished park’s pond. Downtown can be seen further away.

Downtown on vaikuttava näky sekä kaukaa, että läheltä katsottuna.

Downtown is an impressive sight, seen from close up or far away.

Downtownissa kannattaa ehdottomasti tutustua The Last Bookstore -kirjakauppaan. Yläkerran kirjalabyrintin kirjat maksavat dollarin kappale. Täältä voi tehdä todellisia löytöjä.

Downtown you should definitely check out The Last Bookstore. The book labyrinth upstairs offers books for a dollar each. Here you can really find some exceptional gems.

Kannattaa myös käydä ajelemassa Downtownin kuuluisalla Angels Flight -funikulaarilla, joka taitaa olla maailman lyhyin.

You should also go for a ride on Downtown’s famous Angels Flight funicular, which I believe is the world’s shortest.

You can also reach the top by taking the stairs, which here are covered in petals.

The evening can be spent in Santa Monica and Venice, where you should rent a bike or a skateboard to cruise along the amazing beach boulevard.

At the pier you can also catch a breathtaking sunset.

After dark you can still walk along the charming outdoor mall in Santa Monica, the Third Street Promenade.
