Hyvää Amerikan itsenäisyyspäivää Alaskasta! Juhlallisuudet alkoivat jo eilen grillijuhlissa ylenpalttisen ruokamäärän, jelloshottien ja ilotulitteiden kera. Vuorokauden vaihtumista juhlistettiin ulkona rannalla, vuorten siintäessä horisontissa, vuoroveden ollessa matalalla. Nämä ystävät, joiden kanssa olen viettänyt jo niin monta itsenäisyyspäivää ovat se perimmäinen syy miksi oloni on aina haikea ollessani toisaalla heinäkuun neljäntenä päivänä. Juhlat jatkuvat tänään pitkälle yöhön, ja huomenna nousen lentokoneeseen aamukuudelta lentääkseni Seattleen matkan seuraavaa etappia varten.

Happy Independence Day from Alaska! The festivities began yesterday with a barbecue with exorbitant amounts of food, jelloshots and fireworks. At midnight we celebrated the occasion on the beach, with the mountains on the horizon and the tide all the way out. These friends that I’ve spent so many Independence Days with in the past are the main reason why I always feel sad and emotional when I’m elsewhere on July 4th. The partying will go on until late today as well and tomorrow I will get on a plane at 6AM to fly down to Seattle for the next leg of my journey.
