Joskus maisemat saattavat yllättää. Vai uskoisitteko te, että tämä karu maaperä ja tämä hohtava vesistö sijaitsee vain parin tunnin päässä vuorten ja sademetsien ympäröimästä Seattlesta? En meinannut uskoa minäkään kun tänne ensimmäistä kertaa saavuin. Olin aivan hämmentynyt. Mielikuvani Washingtonin vehreästä osavaltiosta olivat aivan erilaiset. Wanapum Lake on padon muodostama järvi Columbia-joen varrella, joka muodostuu Kanadan vuoristoilla ja laskee alas Tyyneen valtamereen Astorian kohdalla Oregonin ja Washingtonin rajalla. Samainen joki näkyy myös Wild-elokuvan viimeisellä minuutilla sillä kuuluisalla sillalla. Tällä kertaa pysähdyimme Suvin kanssa Lake Wanapumin rannoille matkallamme Montanasta takaisin Washingtoniin. Tuuli oli niin voimakas, että hyvä kun pystyssä pysyttiin. Maisemat todella hiljensivät.

Sometimes a scenery might surprise you. Or would you believe that this barren soil and this gleaming body of water is located only a few hours away from Seattle, which is surrounded by mountains and rainforests? I really didn’t, when I arrived here for the first time years ago. I was so taken aback. My notion of the evergreen state of Washington was something completely different. Wanapum Lake is a lake formed by a dam along the Columbia River, which rises in Canada and flows out into the Pacific by Astoria, on the border of Oregon and Washington. The same river is also seen in the last minute of the movie Wild, by that famous bridge. This time we stopped along the shores of Lake Wanapum with Suvi, on our way back to Washington from Montana. The wind was so strong that we could barely stand upright. The scenery truly was amazing.
