Vietin juuri pari päivää muutaman kansainvälisen matkabloggaajan kanssa Päijät-Hämeen luonnonmaisemissa Päijänteen kansallispuiston tuntumassa. Vain puolentoista tunnin päässä Helsingistä, koimme hyisen talvista säätä kun lämpötila laski alhaisimmillaan jopa -29°C asteeseen. Vaikka sää oli kieltämättä aivan jäätävän kylmä, saimme kuitenkin paljon irti kauniista kotimaastani. Moottorikelkkailimme, lumikenkäilimme, hiihdimme, lumilautailimme ja nautimme perinteisestä suomalaisesta saunasta ja avannossa uimisesta. Olen aina liputtanut sen puolesta, että nähdäkseen luonnossa jotain kaunista, on kestettävä säätä ja sen vaihteluita. Luonto ja vuodenajat ovat syitä jotka tekevät Suomesta aina vain mielenkiintoisen matkakohteen. Jopa suomalaiselle itselleen.

I just spent a couple of days in the heart of Finland’s Päijät-Häme region by Päijänne National Park with a group of international travel bloggers. Only an hour and a half away from the capital of Helsinki, we were met by freezing cold temperatures down to -20°F. Despite the temperatures being what they were, we were still making the most of the beautiful landscape of my home country by snowmobiling, snowshoeing, skiing, snowboarding and enjoying the quintessential Finnish combination of a hot sauna and swimming in a frozen lake. I’ve always been of the opinion that to see something beautiful in nature, you must brave the ever changing weather. Nature and the 4 seasons are the reasons that keep making Finland such an interesting travel destination – even for a Finn like myself.

Sunnuntaina vietin tunnin -27°C asteen pakkasessa kuvaillen öistä metsää ja taivasta. Niin sen vaivan arvoista!

On Sunday I spent an hour in -17°F degree freezing weather shooting the nightly forest and the sky. So worth it!

Seuraavana päivänä grillatessamme makkaraa ja korvapuusteja tulella ja juodessamme kuumaa teetä tällä majalla, jonne olimme lumikenkäilleet ja hiihtäneet jään yli, ilmestyi aurinko näkyville vain hetkeksi. Kipitin hiihtomonoissa ympäri metsikköä ja räpsin kuvia ennen kuin sormeni jäätyivät jääpuikoiksi. Puhelin oli jo aikaa sitten sammunut kylmyyteen.

The next day as we were grilling sausages and cinnamon rolls over the fire and drinking hot tea at this hut, where we had snowshoed and skied across the ice, the sun suddenly appeared for a couple of minutes. I dashed around the woods in my cross-country ski boots and snapped some photos, before my fingers nearly froze and snapped off. My phone had long since died.
