The year is winding down. Once again here’s a traditional Q&A of this year’s life and travels. Next up I’ll do a more lengthy recap of all the amazing trips of the year 2016.

1. Mitä sellaista teit kuluneen vuoden aikana, mitä et ole koskaan ennen tehnyt?

Uin vesiputouksessa, uin avannossa -30’C asteessa, uin kuumissa lähteissä, uin Alaskassa meressä syksyn kynnyksellä… uiminen oli kuluneena vuonna aika kova juttu.

2. Oletko kyennyt pitämään itsellesi viime uutena vuotena tekemäsi lupaukset?

En usko uudenvuodenlupauksiin.

3. Tuliko elämääsi uusia ihmisiä kuluneen vuoden aikana?

Tuli ja sain myös muutaman vanhan takaisin vuosien tauon jälkeen.

1. What did you do in the past year that you have never done before?

I swam in a waterfall, I swam in a hole in the ice at -22’F degrees, I swam in hot springs, I swam in the ocean in Alaska in early autumn… swimming was a big thing this past year.

2. Have you been able to keep the new year’s promises you made last year?

I’m not into making new years promises.

3. Did you get new people into your life in the last year?

Yeah, and I also got some old ones back after years and years.

Enemmän aikaa tärkeiden ihmisten kanssa.

4. Did you lose anyone close to you?

Well no, but feels like I lived in fear of it all through the year.

5. Which countries did you visit?

Finland, Sweden x 2, United States x 3 (in the states of Alaska, California, Oregon, Nevada, Washington).

6. What would you wish for that you didn‘t receive in the past year?

More time with important people.

May 14th, the day my friend got married in Alaska and which somehow changed the course of my life.

8. What was your greatest achievement in the last year?

Surviving all the grief.

9. What was your greatest disappointment?

Narrow-minded people, the political situation in the world.

10. Sairastitko tai loukkaannuitko?

Läheiseni sairastivat vakavasti. Itselläni oli polvivaivoja ja todella paha korvatulehdus.

Lentoliput. Lukuisat sellaiset. LIsäksi 4 hengen teltta puoliksi ystäväni kanssa.

12. Kenen käytös pöyristytti sinua eniten?

Päättäjien, poliitikkojen, rasistien.

10. Did you fall ill or become injured?

My loved ones were severely ill. I had problems with my knee and a vicious ear infection.

11. What was your best purchase?

Flights. Multiple flights. Also a 4-person tent I split with a friend of mine.

12. Whose behaviour horrified you the most?

Administrators, politicians, racists.

Haluaisin sanoa matkustaneeni enemmän, mutta toisaalta olen viettänyt vuodesta 2,5 kuukautta USA:ssa, viikon reissaten Suomessa ja pitkän viikonlopun Ruotsissa. Ehkä sen pitäisi riittää?

18. Mitä toivoisit tehneesi vähemmän?

Huolehtineeni.

16. Compared to the previous year, were you

– Happier or unhappier: pretty much the same.

– Skinnier or chubbier: the same.

– Richer or poorer: am I being ridiculously boring if I say the same once again?

17. What do you wish you had done more?

I would like to say traveled, but on the other hand I’ve spent 2.5 months of the year in the US, a week traveling in Finland and a long weekend in Sweden. Maybe that’s enough?

Worried.

Christmas was a very regular dinner among family. Solstice was spent in a tent in the woods and on cliffs by the shore.

A couple of times.

To travel and to be with my friends. To see my favorite artist Neko Case in concert in Eugene, OR on November 10th.

World peace. More love.

27. What was the best movie of the year?

It’s hard to say, but the last movie I saw was Passengers.

Oli ihan tavallinen päivä. Sain lahjaksi uudet kumisaappaat. Täytin liikaa yli kolmekymmentä.

Se että koirani olisi ollut terveempi.

30. Kuinka määrittelisit tyylisi kuluneen vuoden aikana?

Aika rento. Käytin paljon ulkoiluvaatteita, pipoja ja Portlandista ostettua reissuhattuani. Lempivärini ovat edelleen vihreä ja lila.

28. What did you do on your birthday and what did you turn?

It was just an ordinary day. I was gifted a new pair of rubber boots. I turned too much over thirty.

29. Which singular thing would’ve made your year clearly better and happier?

That my dog wouldn’t have been so sick.

30. How would you define your style in the past year?

Very casual. I wore a lot of outdoor gear, beanies and my travel hat I got in Portland. My favorite colors are still purple and green.

34. Who did you miss?

My loved ones in the US.

35. Who was the best person you met?

My old friend Paul. Without a doubt. We hadn’t seen each other in nearly twenty years after our exchange student years, but now we’ve been in touch constantly.

36. What or who surprised you in the past year?

An old friend from Alaska. New friends in Alaska.
