“I’ve never found time spent amongst nature to be a waste of time.”

Omassa elämässä luonnon merkitys on iän myötä vain korostunut. Ja viime aikoina ympäristö ja sen varjeleminen ovat olleet yhä enenevissä määrin mielessäni, sekä maailmanpoliittisista kuin yhteiskunnallisistakin syistä. Ihminen voi elää ilman montaa asiaa, mutta ilman luontoa ihminen ei selviä. Aiemmin on vaikuttanut että ympäristöasioissa on oltu oikealla polulla, ja että niistä on vihdoin tullut valtavirrankin asia… mutta nyt olen huolestunut. Huolestunut siitä, mitä tuleman pitää jos ahneet poliitikot ajattelevat ainoastaan tuottoa eivätkä ollenkaan luontoa.

In my own life the meaning of nature has only increased with age. And lately the environment and protecting it have been more and more on my mind, both for political and social reasons. Humans can live without many luxuries, but without nature none of us will survive. Before I’ve felt like we’ve been on the right path regarding the environment and that environmental conservation has has finally become an issue for the masses… but now I am worried. Worried what will be in the future, if greedy politicians only think about profit not at all about nature.

Luonnosta saan voimaa. Luonnossa löydän rauhan. Säännöllisin väliajoin kaipaan kaupungista irtiottoa ja hakeudun metsään. Alaskassa luonto ympäröi ihmisiä koko ajan. Siellä ihminen elää luonnon ehdoilla. Viime kesänä alaskalainen ystäväni Ry ja minä veimme suomalaiset ystäväni eräälle lempireitilleni Point Bridgetiin. Mukaan lähtivät myös isovillakoira Wes ja eväät.

Nature gives me strength. In nature I can find peace. I regularly long to take a break from the city and go into the woods. In Alaska nature surrounds humans at all times. There a person lives on nature’s terms. Last summer my Alaskan friend Ry and I took my Finnish friends on one of my favorite hikes to Point Bridget. We also brought the standard poodle Wes and some snacks.
