Halusimme ehdottomasti yöpyä yhden yön punapuiden katveessa. Tein pientä tutkimusta siitä missä Redwoodin puistoalueista olisi parhaat näkymät telttailua varten. Kalifornian pohjoisrajalla, lähellä Crescent Cityä oleva Jedediah Smithin leirintäalue oli meidän valintamme. We definitely wanted to spend a night under the Redwoods. I did some research into which one of the Redwood Parks would have the best views. Our pick was Jedediah Smith Campground, by the northern California border, close to Crescent City. We wanted to try to see the sunset by the shore and still get to the campground before dusk. The coastline was so grand, that we spent a bit too long looking over at the ocean and were running late, so…

…saavuimme hieman harmillisesti paikalle vasta pimeän laskeuduttua. Mutta eipä tuo loppupeleissä meitä haitannut. Korkeuksiin kohoavat punapuut, leirinuotion lämmin valo ja taivaalla tuikkivat tähdet olivat täydellinen yhdistelmä istuessamme retkipöydän ääressä syömässä lohitacoja ja siemaillessamme paikallisia oluita. Lopulta oli ihana asettua telttaan ja katsella teltan läpi näitä uskomattomia jättiläismäisiä puita.

…unfortunately we didn’t arrive at the campsite until it had already gotten dark. In the end it didn’t really bother us. The redwoods rising up towards the skies, the warm light of our campfire and the millions of stars twinkling in the sky were a perfect combination, as we sat by our picnic table eating salmon tacos and drinking local beers. Finally it was great to just settle down in our tent and look out at these magnificent giant trees.
