Kesän ollessa parhaimmillaan olen kaivannut viileitä järviuinteja. Viime viikonlopun vietimmekin ystävien kanssa erittäin kirkkaan järven äärellä Suomen metsien siimeksessä. Tästä maasta harvoin löytää kirkkaita järviä, mutta Yhdysvaltojen luoteiskulma on niitä täynnä. Yksi suosikeistani on Washingtonin osavaltiossa sijaitseva Lake Crescent. Järvi kuuluu Olympicin kansallispuiston alueeseen ja on suosittu kohde matkailijoille. Viime vuonna meitä lykästi, sillä järven rannalla sijaitsevan metsänvartijan mökin luota bongasimme myös pari pientä bambia. Tällä kertaa keli oli pilvinen ja viileä, joten järviuinnit jäivät toiseen kertaan.

As the summer has truly heated up, I have missed swimming in crystal clear lakes. I spent last weekend with my friends at an extremely clear lake in the Finnish woods. Finland isn’t really known for its clear lakes, but the Northwestern US is full of them. One of my favorites is Lake Crescent in Washington State. This lake is part of the Olympic National Park and is a popular travel destination. Last year we got lucky, since as we stopped by the old ranger station along the shore, we also spotted a couple of bambis by the cabin. This time the weather was overcast and chilly, so we didn’t dare to brave the cold lake waters with a swim.
