Aamulla herättyämme Cochiti Lakella ajelimme kaikessa rauhassa parinkymmenen minuutin matkan kohti Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocksia. Tämä on tavallisesta poiketen BLM:n eli Bureau of Land Managementin hallinnoima kansallismonumentti, eli se ei kuulu NPS:n eli kansallispuistojärjestelmän alle. Parkkipaikalta lähdimme patikoimaan kanjonin huipulle. Tämä olikin reissun ensimmäinen pidempi patikka ja vaikka maisemat huipulla palkitsivatkin oli jälkikäteen mehevä hiki ja huutava nälkä, jota lääkittiin onneksi Santa Fen lähellä pikaruoalla. Täältä matka jatkui kohti Coloradoa ja Great Sand Dunesin hiekkadyynejä.

In the morning, after waking up at Cochiti Lake, we took a leisurely 20 minute drive toward Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks. This National Monument is governed by the Bureau of Land Management and not the National Park Service, as many others. From the parking lot we started the hike up to the top of the canyon. This was the first longer hike of the trip and even if the views up top were well worth the effort, we were sweaty and starving afterwards, which we then relieved by having fast food close to Santa Fe. Then our journey continued onward to Colorado and the Great Sand Dunes.
