Tämä viikko on ollut rankka. Pari päivää sitten kuulin rakkaan ystävän poismenosta. Vaikeinta siitä tekee se, että ystäväni asui maailman toisella puolella Alaskassa, enkä voi tehdä juurikaan muuta kuin muistella häntä lämmöllä. Syvässä pimeässä kanjonissa velloessa voi tuntua aika epätoivoiselta, mutta onneksi ihanat lähellä olevat ystävät tukevat ja kuuntelevat näinä aikoina. Aika monena iltana tällä viikolla olen nimittäin tihrustanut itkua aivan lohduttomana. Black Canyon of the Gunnisonin kanjonin kuvat sopivat tähän hetkeen jotenkin paremmin kuin hyvin. Utahin ja Arizonan kanjonit kun yleensä hohtavat lämpimän punaisina, näyttäytyy Coloradon kanjoni yllättävän pimeänä ja uhkaavana. Mutta vaikka kanjonin seinät ovat tummat, löytyy sieltä elämää enemmän kuin voisi kuvitellakaan.

This week has been rough. A couple of days ago I learned of the passing of a dear friend. The hardest part is, that he lived on the other side of the world in Alaska and I can’t really do much else, than think about all the good memories we had together. Wallowing deep in a dark canyon can feel desperate, but fortunately I have wonderful friends close by, who will support me and listen to me in this time. Quite a few evenings this week I’ve been sniffling away, feeling extremely sad. These pictures from Black Canyon of the Gunnison fit the theme more than well. The canyons in Utah and Arizona are often warm and coppery in tone, but this Colorado canyon is surprisingly dark and menacing. Even if the walls of the canyon are quite dark, you will still find more life within them than you could’ve originally thought possible.
