Most Memorable

Mielestäni ehdottomasti parasta Instagramissa on muistaminen. Se muistuttaa siitä mitä on tullut koettua ja nähtyä. Koska Instagramin koko ideahan on ikuistaa jotain saman tien, ilman sen suurempia suunnitelmia. Siksi IG-kuvilla onkin usein enemmänkin tarinoita kerrottavana. Tässä omat suosikkitarinani viime vuoden Instagram-kuvin. Kiitos kaikille Skimbacon tyypeille inspiraatiosta!
I think the best part about Instagram is remembering. It reminds you of what you’ve seen and done. Because Instagram’s idea is to capture something in an instant, without any grandiose plans. That’s probably why IG-pics often have even more of a story to tell. These are my last year’s most memorable stories through Instagram. Thanks to you guys at Skimbaco for the inspiration!

Alaska

First day back on the slopes of Eaglecrest in March. Fresh powder and awesome scenery. This is what I call home.

One of my first days in Juneau we hiked up to the Mendenhall Glacier in the sun. Even if the glacier usually keeps temps colder than elsewhere in the valley, I was so warm, I actually lost my glove on the way while fiddling with too many loose items and my camera. I’ve been hiking, skiing and kayaking to this glacier for nearly 18 years now and it just keeps on receding, so that soon you can’t even reach it without an actual climb.

Hiking out to the wetlands by Fish Creek. This is where you can enjoy some of the nicest views of Thunder Mountain and the Gastineau Channel. The planes landing and taking off at the airport are an added bonus. Southeast Alaska at its best.

One morning the fog was so thick, the chairlift seemed to disappear into the mist. You couldn’t see much, but the snow was once again fabulous under my board.

Untitled

My friend’s mom made us breakfast one Saturday morning. What was special about it were the sourdough pancakes she had prepared especially for us. Her sourdough is legendary and has been going strong for close to 20 years already. YUM.

Untitled

My last day of snowboarding at Eaglecrest, I followed these peeps up to Pittman’s Ridge for another extremely sweaty hike. Up top I was met with the below view. I stood there gasping for air as tears ran down my face. This is the most beautiful sight I have EVER seen. On the way back down I was further rewarded with magnificent thigh deep powder turns while descending into Heavenly Valley. I love Alaska and miss it every day.

California & Arizona

Skateboarding in Santa Monica and Venice, exploring the SoCal skateparks and witnessing some of the most beautiful sunsets at the beach and Santa Monica Pier. This evening was simply amazing, though I had brand new skate shoes on my feet and they kept cramping. Just had to keep on going faster to ignore it.

Untitled

Visiting my SoCal family Nancy, Janine and Paula at Downtown Disney in Anaheim. This is where my aunt spent half of her life. Even if my aunt already passed away some time ago, we’re still in touch and get together every time I visit. Love you guys!

Untitled

Leaving LA at the crack of dawn for a roadtrip through the desert to see the Grand Canyon and having breakfast at this adorable 50’s diner was one of the most memorable experiences on the road. I love road trips and couldn’t imagine traveling without them.

Untitled

Experiencing a thunderstorm right smack in front of us at the Grand Canyon was the craziest thing ever. I didn’t know whether to be scared or excited, so I was probably both. The girls too judging by their expressions.

Untitled

Arriving in Palm Springs after dark, taking a dip in the pool under the stars and waking up to this. What the…? Ah-mazing!

Untitled

Visiting Yosemite. I’ve been craving to go back nearly every day since. With my eternal love for mountains and nature, I can just wonder how come I hadn’t been there before?

Untitled

After all the stuff that went wrong in San Francisco, Pigeon Point Lighthouse was just what I needed to set things back on the right track. My friend Suvi said the scenery made her feel like being in one of my banner images. I agreed. I absolutely loved it.

Untitled

Sunset at Big Sur and HWY1. We had to stop and take so many pictures along the way, that we ended up driving a portion of the way to San Simeon in utter darkness. It was well worth it though. Look at those colors!

Untitled

Our last night in LA we got takeout sushi at our favorite Los Feliz restaurant, Starfish Sushi, enjoyed our rolls at dusk in Griffith Park and admired the amazing skyline.

Untitled

On our last day in LA, we set out early to hike up to the Hollywood sign. From Beachwood Canyon, it’s about an hourlong hike uphill. This particular day though, it was especially warm and as we finally made it to the top sweat was pouring down my arms into my hands. Another one of those well worth the effort moments.

Spain

Untitled

We enjoyed coffee above the city in Barcelona with my mom. You can always pay a bit extra for a view, right?

  1. Aivan HUIKEITA kuvia, huhhuh! 🙂 Oli kyllä aamukahvit mennä väärään kurkkuun tuollaisten maisemien edessä, vaikka suurin osa kuvista onkin jo tuttuja aiemmista postauksista. Mahtavaa 🙂

    1. Sanos muuta! Mä muistan aina jokaisen hetken, jolloin kuvan otan ja siks onkin vaikeeta hävittää kuvia. Mulla on koneella niitä aivan liikaa tallessa.

  3. Your Alaska pictures are stunning!! They all are but those are my favorite! I’m so ready for a ski holiday! What a brilliant year you’ve had! I love how Instagram makes it easy to go back and review your year as well!

    1. Todellakin voi olla vaikea peitota! Katsotaan ihan rauhassa mitä vuosi tuo tullessaan. Tosin tätä kevättä ja kesää varjostaa hieman pian alkava putkiremontti, mutta eiköhän siitäkin selvitä. 🙂

  5. Aivan ihania kuvia! Olen kyllä niin samaa mieltä, Instagramissa parasta on se, että sen avulla on helppo ikuistaa hetkiä joita on ihana muistella jälkeenpäin 🙂

    1. Musta on ihana selata taaksepäin ja kattoa mitä kaikkea minäkin päivänä tuli tehtyä. Tähän löytyy tietty vielä omatkin appinsa, muttei niitäkään varmaan olis ilman instaa!
